Toyota Australia has today announced that it will initiate a safety recall on 5,407 Toyota 86 vehicles produced from April 2012 to July 2013.
This recall is due to a condition affecting the engine valve springs.
Due to excessive stress, there is a possibility that the engine valve springs could fracture resulting in sudden power loss while driving, and the vehicle may not restart, increasing safety risk.
Parts for this activity are currently being prepared. Exact timing of parts availability in Australia will be confirmed as soon as possible.
Toyota Australia expects that parts will arrive at Toyota dealerships next month. A letter will then be sent by mail to all impacted owners to request that they make an appointment at their preferred Toyota Dealers.
Toyota dealers will remove and replace the valve springs on all affected vehicles, which will take approximately 10 hours to complete.
This will be carried out free of charge.
There have been no incidents or injuries in Australia as a result of this condition.
