Toyota Australia has initiated a safety recall on 8476 Prius and Prius V vehicles produced from October 2008 to November 2014.

The recall is due to the software controlling the hybrid system, also known as the Power Management ECU, not correctly entering a fail-safe mode in certain cases as intended.

Toyota has found that in rare situations, the vehicle may not enter a failsafe driving mode as intended. If this occurs, the vehicle could lose power and stall.

While power steering and braking would remain operational, a vehicle stall while driving at higher speeds could increase the risk of a crash.

Toyota Australia will shortly contact all affected vehicle owners advising them details of this recall campaign so they can make an appointment at their preferred Toyota dealer.

Toyota dealers will reprogram the Power Management ECU, which will take approximately 40 minutes.

This will be carried out free of charge.

There have been no incidents or injuries reported in Australia as a result of this condition.

For further information, please contact the Toyota recall campaign helpline on 1800 987 366.
